In December 2019, a new emerging infectious disease, Wuhan novel coronavirus infection, was reported from China. The patients usually have fever and pneumonia. At present, this emerging disease already exists outside China, and the infection is presently a new public health concern worldwide. Regarding the new coronavirus infection, an important consideration in clinical hematology is the hematological alteration due to infection. In Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), a recent emerging coronavirus infection, thrombocytopenia is a common clinical finding. Here, the authors assessed on the available data on 42 infected cases during the 1st month of outbreak, in China and Thailand,, to find out the magnitude of thrombocytopenia. Of interest, no patient has presented with thrombocytopenia. Unlike MERS, the novel Wuhan coronavirus infection has no clinical association with thrombocytopenia.
